2002 | Began his racing career at the age of 14 by competing in karting events at the Ocala (Fl) Gran Prix, winning several local races.
2003 | After attending his first car driving school at the Derek Daly Academy at Las Vegas, he entered his first car race, a Skip Barber regional race at Road Atlanta. Won his first Skip Barber regional race shortly thereafter at Moroso Motorsports Park. Competed in Rotax Junior in karting; won that class at the Florida Winter Tour and also won the North Florida Rotax Max Challenge Junior. Finished third in the National Rotax Max Challenge Junior-Texas, and third in the Easykart 125 international class.
2004 | Won the Formula BMW USA scholarship in Valencia, Spain. Competed in the Formula BMW USA series, placing third overall with four victories; was the highest placed American. Set track record at Lime Rock in his first BMW race weekend. Had a first and a fifth at Montreal and set a track record. Finished first and fourth and set the fastest qualifying record in the doubleheader at Indianapolis. With that victory he became the youngest driver ever to win a race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Set a track record at Cleveland and won both races. Second at Road Atlanta and set track record. Set a track record and had two seconds at Laguna Seca. Also competed in, and won, the Skip Barber Regional Race at Daytona, setting a lap record on the full course.
2005 | Finished tenth in the European Formula BMW with Team Rosberg; best finish was second at Spa.
2006 | Finished ninth in the F3 Euroseries, winning the season finale at Hockenheim, Germany. Finished second in the F3 series’ race at Le Mans; was third at Norisring and fourth at Lausitzring. Was the rookie with the highest average qualifying results, as he was in the top six 95 percent of the time, racing against 7 current F1 drivers.
2007 | Competed in the A1GP for Team USA. Won at Shanghai; the only American to ever win a race in the series, finished second at Brands Hatch and was third at Mexico City. VW F3 engine development test driver.
2008: Awarded the Michael Rosen trophy for the most likely to succeed driver. Finished third in the Atlantic Championship in his rookie season with a first at Road America and Edmonton, 2nd at Trois-Rivieres and Miller Motorsports Park, 3rd at New Jersey Motorsports Park, won the pole at Road Atlanta season finale. Finished on the podium in five of 11 races and was sixth or better in seven starts. Also tested a Firestone Indy Lights car for RLR/Andersen Racing in November on Sebring’s short course.
2009: Atlantic Championship for Genoa and Newman Wachs Racing. Awarded the Jovy Marcelo Trophy for Sportsmanship. Runner up with equal winning points, 5 pole positions, 4 wins, 3 seconds, 6 fastest laps| Firestone Indy Lights series for RLR/Andersen Racing with a 2nd & 4th in first event, 4th Long Beach
