Columbia, SC, February 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Samurai Karate Studio participated in the Karate United tournament, held this past Saturday, February 20th at Tony Thomas Family Karate, located in Columbia, SC.
The tournament was created to give member schools of Karate United, and their students, a "tournament like" atmosphere. Over 70 children, ranging in age from 4 years old up to 15 years of age competed.
Columbia Karate United is a South Carolina martial arts organization, made up of the top martial arts schools in the Columbia area, dedicated to empowering youth through an effective martial arts self-defense and leadership program to develop self-confidence, self-discipline, safety and physical fitness. Each school owner embodies the highest standards in the Martial Arts industry, providing the very best in child and adult instruction.
The competitors competed in forms, either open hand or weapons, grappling, flag sparring and point sparring.
"This was a really wonderful tournament," stated Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast Columbia, "students got to test their skills against other students from within the Karate United association and receive a medal for their efforts."
The emphasis in this tournament was about learning about competition, good sportsmanship, good self control and discipline and most importantly, having a lot of fun.
"The parents were great," commented Feldt, "they were really supportive of all the children and no one took the competition too seriously, so I believe everyone had a great time!"
