Napa Valley’s "The King of Cabernet" to Visit Arrowhead Grill
Third-generation vintner Nils Venge to host SaddleBack Cellars wine dinner on March 23.
Glendale, AZ, February 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Nils Venge, owner of SaddleBack Cellars in Napa Valley, will host a special wine dinner paired with cuisine specially prepared by chef Charles Wade Schwerd on March 23 at Arrowhead Grill.
Venge, known as “The King of Cabernet” for receiving the first-ever perfect score for a California wine when his 1985 Groth Cabernet Savignon took top honors in 1988, will lead a special food and wine pairing at the popular Glendale restaurant.
“Nils is a legend in the business and to have him visit us will be a special gift for our patrons,” said Arrowhead Grill owner and chef Charles Wade Schwerd.
Venge’s pedigree includes some of the finest vineyards in California including Charles Krug, Sterling Vineyards, Groth Vineyards and SaddleBack Cellars, which Venge first founded with his father-in-law back in 1976.
The wine tasting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include four special Saddleback wines from Napa Valley – a 2007 Chardonnay, 2008 Viognier, a 2004 Cabernet and a 2006 Zinfandel. For dessert, a 2007 Late Harvest Orange Muscat will be served.
Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 623-566-2224 and the cost is $85 per person.
Schwerd has spent the past two decades carving out a reputation as one of the Valley’s finest chefs. His passion for food left an indelible stamp on restaurants such as Mastro’s Steakhouse, Mastro’s Ocean Club and Drinkwater’s City Hall Steakhouse, where he was founding chef. It also helped him open John Elway’s Steakhouse in Denver, Colo., to great fanfare.
