Early on she realized that Piston was a "social butterfly" of sorts and set out to find a way that she could share the joy and laughter that Piston so often provided. After noticing how the neighborhood children flocked to Piston every time he was out in the yard she knew that that was the way to go. It was a natural connection that Piston had with children and therefor is was a natural fit to cast him as the main character in a ABC learning book for children.
