Surf Takes One from 8th Ranked Slam

San Diego, CA, February 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Surf squeezed out a victory in a thrilling overtime win (108-105) over the nationally 8th ranked Los Angeles Slam last night moving the Surf to 11th in the ABA Power Rankings. The Slam lead by as much as 10 points at the end of 3 quarters before folding in overtime with the intensified defense of the Surf and "Kono" Kadima sparking the offense off the bench.

Terry Menefee, as “Player of the Game”, led all Surf scorers with 27 points and a strong performance at point guard for the absent Willie Hall. John Clark added 23 points and a solid defensive performance at forward.

A significant factor in the win was the play of 4 new big men for the Surf; 6’8” Bam Webster, 6’9” Imani Mackie, 6’10” Bryan Fleshwater and 7’2” Cameron Koford, all who saw action tonight in the win. The Surf had been missing the presence of a strong inside game since its inception in the fall of ’09. Then after the only big man for the Surf, Jamal Kendricks, retreated for unknown reasons, the team had to rely on a very small team to carry the load. The load for them became easier as of tonight with the addition of the Surf’s new inside game.

With 2 recent wins under their belt and much needed momentum, the Surf will play their first round of ABA playoff game with Las Vegas at the Hourglass Arena at Miramar College this Sunday Feb. 28th at 7:30 pm, before heading to China next month. Follow the Surf: www.SDSURFHoops.com.
