Atlanta Technical College President Named an Atlanta Woman of Influence
Atlanta, GA, February 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Today, Atlanta Technical College President, Alvetta Peterman Thomas, was honored as one of the Atlanta Business League’s Women of Influence for 2010. Thomas was recognized for her strong leadership role in higher education and for exemplifying many of the attributes that make Atlanta a global leader in business and industry. The Atlanta Business League (ABL) honored 100 of Atlanta’s most impressive women on February 23 at the Fifteenth Annual Women of Vision Breakfast.
The Atlanta Business League was established in 1933 as an affiliate of the National Business League, and fosters the growth, creation, and development of successful business enterprises owned, operated, and managed by African-Americans in metropolitan Atlanta. Understanding that workforce training is critical in today’s business environment, the ABL honored Dr. Alvetta Thomas for her work in increasing the number of highly-qualified, work-ready graduates in the city.
Under Thomas’ leadership, the college has reached new heights with a 98 percent job placement rate, an increase in college enrollment of more than 40 percent, and the development of the Atlanta Technical College Institute for Males, which was designed to increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of African-American males. Later this year, this school will open a $14.2 million Allied Health and Technology Complex that is expected to further boost enrollment and position Atlanta Technical College as a leader in health-focused education.
