EMLab P&K Expands Real-Time PCR Tests for Pathogen Detection

San Bruno, CA, March 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- EMLab P&K launches new analytical services for detecting pathogens in food and environmental samples using real-time PCR technology. By using emerging PCR testing techniques, EMLab P&K now performs rapid analysis of pathogens including: E. coli, E. coli 0157:H7, Enterococcus, Enterococcus Faecalis, Listeria, Listeria Monocytogenes, Salmonella Enterica, Cryptosporidium Parvum, Campylobacter Jejuni, Campylobacter Lari, Campylobacter Coli and Campylobacter Upsaliensis. By employing real-time PCR, EMLab P&K can detect and quantify specific microbial organisms such as Dehalococcoides involved in bioremediation process. The PCR tests are highly sensitive and specific, detecting pathogenic contamination quickly. Results can be available in a matter of hours. As EMLab P&K expands its portfolio of PCR services, new PCR tests for pathogen detection including Giardia and Clostridium will be added in the near future.

Rapid and accurate microbial tests are becoming increasingly important to quickly detect bacterial contamination and identify the source of outbreaks. Although traditional culture-based bacterial testing methods remain the gold standard, they have certain limitations and can require a substantial amount of time compared to real-time PCR testing. Some culture-based bacterial tests can take up to seven days to obtain complete results. When investigating a possible outbreak, culture-based methods are not always suitable for analyzing a large number of samples due to time constraints.

The real-time PCR tests offered by EMLab P&K are affordable and introduce clients to the accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, and throughput that can be applied to a broad range of bacteria samples.
