Ron Teixeira, Executive Director - National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), to Speak at GKC’s Cybersecurity Teleconference in January, 2007

As we become more interconnected, network security attacks are at an all time high with new and innovative security threats being developed and executed. Increasingly, the burden of protecting companies from such attacks is falling on the Technology head. The Global Knowledge Congress has assembled a team of experts to help analyze these changes and their impact on the companies servicing this industry. These experts will present their findings, which includes a "best practice" panel, at a comprehensive two-hour teleconference scheduled for January 2007.

About Ron Teixeira

As the executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), Teixeira is responsible for the overall management of cyber security awareness programs and national education efforts. He works closely with various government agencies, corporations and non-profits to increase awareness of Internet security issues and to empower home users, small businesses and the education community with tools and best practices designed to ensure a safe and secure Internet experience. Since joining the NCSA, Teixeira has provided security tips for the public on a number of news outlets like CNN, Newsweek, Associated Press, Parade Magazine and Radio and TV News Shows all over the country. He also has worked with various government agencies and organizations to develop a small business cyber security train the trainers program, a national K-12 safety, security and ethics campaign and national surveys on various security threats.

Teixeira brings an extensive record of achievement in Internet security education and legislation. Prior to joining the NCSA in September of 2005, Teixeira served as a senior legislative associate for the Economic Development and Commerce Committee at the National Governors Association. He managed all lobbying activities on behalf of the Governors offices for the Voice over Internet Freedom Act of 2004, Universal Service and E-Rate legislation and the E911 Enhancement Act of 2004.

Prior to his time at National Governors Association, Teixeira had worked on Internet crime and security issues since 1999 with various organizations. While at the Internet Alliance as the Manager of Global Law Enforcement and Security Affairs, Teixeira worked with the G-8, Interpol and Europol to develop a cyber forensics video for law enforcement, which was distributed to Interpol member states. Moreover, he represented the US Internet Service Providers (ISP) industry and negotiated on behalf of the industry during the drafting of the Council of Europe’s Cybercrime Treaty, the first treaty developed on cyber crime. Teixeira also represented the ISP industry in state legislators on matters related to data retention and law enforcement access to customer records, and helped shape and draft parts of the Cyber Security Enhancement Act of 2001, which was enacted into law. He also helped work with federal, state and local law enforcement to help build partnerships and cooperation with the ISP industry on how to combat cyber crime.

In 2002, Teixeira helped found the U.S. Internet Service Providers Association, an association representing the largest ISPs’ in the U.S. During his tenure at the U.S. Internet Service Providers Association, he participated in the drafting of the National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, and was a member of the ISP Working Group on the Presidential Critical Infrastructure Protection Board. Teixeira also worked on federal and state privacy legislation, including the CAN SPAM Act of 2002 and CA SB 1386, California’s Data Breach Bill.
