The Council on Litigation Management Announces CLM Members Raise Over $12,000 for Haitian Relief Effort and Mark Hyman, M.D., as the 2010 Professionalism Award Recipient

New York, NY, March 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Council on Litigation Management (CLM) announced today that it has designated its golf outing, occurring during its annual conference on March 24, 2010 in Ponte Vedra, Florida, as a Haitian Relief Charity Golf Tournament. All proceeds will go to Partners in Health (www.pih.org). Partners in Health (PIH) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to delivering quality health care to people and communities devastated by the joint burdens of poverty and disease.

PIH was among the first emergency medical responders to provide relief services following the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. Within hours of the earthquake, PIH mobilized its existing network of more than 100 doctors, 600 nurses and 4,000 employees on the ground in Haiti prior to the earthquake, established medical supply chains to Port-au-Prince from its hospitals in Haiti, sent medical personnel to support the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince, received patients at the 12 existing PIH facilities (all of which were largely unaffected) and began providing urgent medical and surgical care to earthquake victims.

CLM further announces that its 2010 Professionalism Award recipient is Dr. Mark Hyman, one of the first responders following the Haitian earthquake. CLM will present Dr. Hyman with the award at the CLM annual conference on March 26.

Dr. Hyman is a volunteer doctor with Partners in Health and recently assisted in Haiti during the first 10 days following the earthquake. He has been featured on CNN and on CBS’s “60 Minutes” and has been working to secure full restoration of the General Hospital in Haiti. He serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Functional Medicine and was awarded the 2009 Linus Paul Award for leadership in Functional Medicine. He is on the Board of Directors of the Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington DC, and the Board of Advisors and faculty of the Food as Medicine training program, and of Mehmet Oz’s HealthCorps. He is a family physician, a four-time New York Times bestselling author and a lecturer. Dr. Hyman has become an internationally-recognized leader in the field of functional medicine. He graduated with a B.A. from Cornell University, and received his medical degree from the Ottawa University of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of San Francisco’s program in Family Medicine at the Community Hospital of Santa Rosa.
