New Website Aids in Battle Against Depression for Parents of Children with ADD

Alpha Delta Delta has just launched a new community based website aimed at giving real advice on how to combat depression for families with children who have ADD.

Redwood City, CA, November 04, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Alpha Delta Delta has just announced the launching of their website dedicated to parents with children who have Attention Deficit Disorder. Alpha Delta Delta is an organization devoted to the happiness and wellbeing of those afflicted with Attention Deficit Disorder and their families and friends. Though there are many websites for people with ADD, Alpha Delta Delta is different in that it focuses on the stresses and problems at home and the associated depression that comes with it. Depression and low self esteem plague those with ADD as they constantly fail at tasks that they watch others accomplish easily. They often call themselves names and even physically punish themselves for doing or saying things they knew they shouldn’t have, but blurted out or impulsively acted on before they had a chance to think about it. Drug addiction, alcoholism, high drop out rates and suicide are documented commonalities within this demographic and often can be directly linked to the failures and depression associated with ADD.

Parents have a long history of being judged by how their children behave and must endure countless confrontations with relatives, teachers and bystanders who insist on teaching the parent how to “get their children in line” even though they know nothing about what the parents are going through nor what types of interventions they are currently working on. This constant barrage of well meaning, but highly uninformed people leads to stress, frustration and depression for the parents as well. Divorce is a common factor in parenting a household with an ADD child.

Parents often get so overwhelmed with the chaos and disorganization in the household that they are constantly having to deal with the emergency of the moment. This focus is not very fun, nor very healthy. By constantly only looking at the negatives, it is very hard to have a positive outlook on life and laughter is sometimes a rare commodity. Alpha Delta Delta is helping to restore a more healthy balance between the positives and negatives by helping the parent to stop for a minute and look at some of the things that went well in the day. There are lots of areas on the website that the parents can read about some of the victories that others have achieved, allowing them to stop and reflect on the positives of their day as well. There are also areas for parent members to tell their success stories so that they may give hope to others going through the same things.

By focusing on the positive aspects of ADD and introducing positive self esteem interventions, Alpha Delta Delta is trying to make the lives of all involved happier and more successful. Visit them at www.alphadeltadelta.org/parents.html
