Hailsham Town Council Enters Country Park Into Regional Awards for Second Year Running

The Hailsham Country Park has been entered into the Best Public Park regional South & South East in Bloom competition for the second consecutive year.

Hailsham, United Kingdom, March 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The park’s traditional features, work on the restoration of the wildflower meadow and the construction of a new path around Wentworth Pond impressed judges last year, when Hailsham scooped a Silver Award for Best Country Park in the South East region.

Improved access to woodland areas for disabled people, repairs to existing fencing and the introduction of additional litter receptacles are just some of the projects to be organised by the town council’s Hailsham In Bloom committee this year. Further enhancement of the park’s restored wildflower meadow, the installation of a ‘bee farm’ and other area-specific projects are also on the committee’s agenda in a bid to impress the judges again this summer.

Official South & South East in Bloom judges will judge the park on various criteria including biodiversity levels, landscaping design, disabled access, ongoing maintenance and overall community involvement.

Deputy Town Mayor and Chairman of the Hailsham In Bloom committee, Cllr Jeff Bentley-Astor commented “The judges’ feedback last year stated that although the Hailsham Country Park is a very attractive and well-used facility, the site will benefit considerably from a few additional tweaks, including the installation of more directional and interpretive signage. We will endeavour to carry out as many of these modifications as possible and in time for the judges’ visit to the town in July.”

He added “Local people already know that the Hailsham Country Park is the jewel in Hailsham’s crown. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank town council works staff for their efforts in maintaining the park to such a high standard over the years, helping to make it a worthy contender for the regional prize."
