Children’s Book Empowers Kids, Benefits Child Advocates

Southampton, PA, March 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Richard Penacale’s new book for children, just released by Outskirts Press, is deceptively lighthearted and fun. The Luckiest Frog is colorfully illustrated and upbeat, and it’s delightful reading for preschoolers and their parents—but its underlying message is far more serious: be aware of your surroundings and don’t be a victim.

Designed as a learning tool for youngsters, The Luckiest Frog tells the story of a frog who escapes certain death from three different predators: a crocodile, a fish, and a big black crow. Although he considers himself lucky, the frog actually survives thanks to his fight-for-your-life attitude. This is no wimpy frog, and the moral of the story is clear—the world can be a tough place for frogs (and children), but life is worth fighting for, and safety should be a priority for all.

Well, I’m a frog, I live next to a pond, and I was meant to be.

I started to hop, hippity hop, so that I could go and see.

But up came a croc, and swallowed me whole. I thought I was history.

So I screamed, and I yelled, and I kicked, and I punched; then the croc let go of me.

And on the way out, I shouted out, “Sorry that it wasn’t meant to be!”

Part of all proceeds from this book will benefit Yello Dyno, an organization that teaches children about bullies and sexual predators. Founded by Jan Wagner, Yello Dyno uses a nonthreatening yellow dinosaur to help empower kids to recognize people who mean them harm, including sexual predators, abductors, drug pushers, bullies, and violent adults. The Yello Dyno method is musically driven and based on the Nobel Prize-winning research of Dr. Roger Sperry and the internationally recognized research on children in crisis of Dr. Bruce Perry. According to the website (www.yellodyno.com), this method works because the information is stored in the part of the brain that activates the fight-or-flight response mechanism. Along with school presentations, Yello Dyno offers DVDs, CDs, curricula, and training to parents and educators.

Written in a child-friendly rhyming style, The Luckiest Frog is 36 pages of charming fun, and the hero of the story, the scrappy frog, is sure to capture the hearts of young children everywhere. It’s also sure to subtly deliver an important lesson in recognizing danger, standing up for your rights to safety, and not living in fear of those who mean to harm you, something all children should know.
