Family Service Races to Collect 10,000 Diapers
Mt. Holly, NJ, March 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On March 15, 2010 Family Service started racing to collect 10,000 diapers in their first ever Diaper Derby. The donation drive will run until April 15 and focuses on Family Service’s most vulnerable and in-need consumers – babies. Recently, different programs in the organization were asked what to identify their greatest need, and the overwhelming response was baby items such as diapers, formula, wipes and other supplies.
Although safety-net programs such as food stamps and WIC help with the cost of formula, they do not cover the cost of diapers. Parents and guardians need a source of funding for these necessities, considering an adequate supply of diapers can cost up to $100 a month. However, if a parent cannot afford diapers, they cannot take their child to free/subsidized childcare making it almost impossible to work, attend school or job training.
“This is a great opportunity for community members to join forces and hold drives in their workplace or in conjunction with local events,” said Collins. “To help make this drive a success, participants can visit our website for a list of creative ways to involve friends, family and co-workers.”
Family Service realizes some people would love to make a difference but are just too busy. Participants can donate online through a virtual drive linked directly to the Family Service website. To get involved, visit www.fam-serv.org for a list of accepted donation items or to make a virtual gift. Please send monetary donations to: Family Service, Development Department, 770 Woodlane Road, Mount Holly, NJ 08060.
Family Service, a private non-profit community agency, serves the behavioral health and wellness needs of children, individuals and families in southern and central New Jersey. For more information, please call the Development Office at (609) 267- 5928, or email lizf@famserv.org.
