Radon Tee Goes East and West to Spread Reduce Radon Message
The UK Radon Tee has attended seminars in the East and West Midlands to increase awareness of the naturally occurring radioactive gas, radon.
Bath, United Kingdom, March 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- National radon specialist contractors, ProTen Services, were contracted to provide a radon awareness seminar for developers, architects, planners and building control officers working in three neighbouring counties in the East Midlands. The seminar detailed what radon is, where it is found, what the risks of exposure are, how radon can be removed from existing buildings and basements and how new buildings can be protected. An accompanying guidance booklet was also provided for all attendees.
The following day, the Tee travelled to the West Midlands, where ProTen Services had been asked to talk about radon at a team meeting for Property Services managers from a national specialist housing association. The seminar focused on their responsibilities as landlords and employees. As many of their properties include a site manager’s office, Health & Safety Executive legislation applies and requires a radon risk assessment to be carried out if the property is located in a classified radon Affected Area or has a basement or lower ground floor workspace. As landlords, the association also has a duty of care towards its tenants and should therefore assess all hazards that are posed to their tenants, including radon.
The Radon Tee World Trek 2010 is being sponsored by US non-profit organisation, CanSAR (Cancer Survivors Against Radon), which is dedicated to preventing radon-induced lung cancer and saving lives through education and awareness. The campaign aims to bring social awareness to communities through the power of photos, videos and personal stories.
ProTen Services are taking the Tee on a national tour and will be adding photos to the social media campaign at www.facebook.com/radontee.
