Great Hotels of the World member, Hotel Puente Romano in Marbella, Spain, is to host the Andalucia Tennis Experience, part of the Women’s Professional Tennis Tour (WTA) from April 3 to 11, 2010. The clay courts of the Puente Romano Tennis Club will be staging the second edition of the WTA tournament featuring 32 of the world’s top 100 women tennis players including Serena Williams, Jelena Jankovic, Anabel Medina and Carla Suárez. Former Wimbledon champion Manolo Santana has recently been named as the hotel’s Tennis Club manager.

Forte Village Resort to run Chelsea Football Club and Rugby Academy
Great Hotels of the World member Forte Village Resort, Sardinia, Italy, will host the Chelsea Football School this summer. Coaches from the English Premier League football club will be taking up residence at the resort to provide sporting expertise to children aged 4-13. Under the guidance of professional coaches from the world-renowned London club, the programme will aim to improve the young players’ tactics, teach them new skills and motivate them to be better team players. In addition, the resort will also launch a new Rugby Academy this summer, hosted by ex-England players Will Greenwood and Austin Healey.

Great Hotels of the World member, Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque in Tenerife, Spain has announced Broulio Simancas as new chef at their “Las Aguas” restaurant. Simancas has created a menu influenced by the Canary Islands that he intends to use to make “Las Aguas” a gastronomic benchmark in the region. “One of the main motivations at this new stage was the fact that I could devote all my time and energy to cooking. I can forget about managing the restaurant and focus on creating and designing new dishes”, states the chef.

Hotel Ranga recommended as best place in the world to view the northern lights
Hotel Ranga in Sudurlandsvegur, Iceland, a member of Special Hotels of the World, has been recommended by The Sunday Times as the best hotel in the world from which to view the northern lights. Great Hotels of the World member, Swiss Diamond Hotel’s recently opened Diamond Medical Aesthetical Centre is offering a new medical treatment in which doctors are able to predict future health problems through a simple blood sample. From the blood sample, doctors are able to understand how certain organs are ageing and from this, can predict possible future health problems and make recommendations on how to prevent them from occurring.
