A Banquet of Consequences, Published by Outskirts Press, is a Tale of Love, Loss and Destiny
Wausau, WI, March 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Based on the true story of the author’s parents, Nancy Walters Smith’s new novel, A Banquet of Consequences, published by Outskirts Press, tells the story of the remarkable Kurt and Ella, who follow their dreams and rise out of the Great Depression only to later come face to face with a family secret and the devastating consequences of their own past.
Kurt Welker, born into an impoverished, but loving immigrant family in Ohio during the Great Depression, finds himself one day staring into the challenging green eyes and welcoming smile of Ella Fraser as he lifts himself up onto a float on the Stillwater River. The float and Ella’s charms both begin to carry him away from the indignities of the depression, and the two of them together become absorbed in the contemporary struggle for labor union rights and political change.
Ella’s violent and dysfunctional family, however, have created in her a manipulative sociopath, and Kurt and Ella’s journey of love and ambitious dreams leads finally to the moment when they must face the consequences of their own unfortunate past decisions. They may be torn apart by that process and the aftershock of it could reverberate down through the generations to come.
A Banquet of Consequences shows the lingering scars on many from the Great Depression and asks the question: do the choices that we make create our own lives? Or do we live and love, win and lose, because of the choices made by others, the families who have molded us, and the times and circumstances we are born into?
