Mentor Research Institute and the Positive Toolbox Partner with HSBCAMPS to Reward Youth with Scholarships to Basketball Camp in Bend
Bend, OR, March 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Since its inception in 2007, HSBCAMPS has prided itself on being a camp that gives back. With more than $25,000 raised to date, HSBCAMPS stands firm in its commitment to provide every child, regardless of age or income, with an opportunity to attend camp. To foster this mission, HSBCAMPS will partner for the second consecutive year with the Mentor Research Institute (MRI) and the Positive Toolbox, both educational and research non-profit organizations with a focus on mental health for youth and families. Through the partnership with MRI and the Positive Toolbox, youth in grades K-12 will have the opportunity to earn a basketball camp scholarship by submitting an essay based on positivity, giving, and character. Winners will be selected and awarded with one camp scholarship for each of the sessions in Bend.
Kevin Rea, director at the Mentor Research Institute, noted, “We want to hear from everyone and anyone who could benefit from this great opportunity. Last year’s winner was a young man who submitted an essay nominating his best friend for the scholarship. Moved by his words, we offered camp scholarships to both of them.”
Carson Sofro, HSBCAMPS founder/director, added, “At HSBCAMPS, we feel strongly that basketball is not just a game or after-school activity; it is a vessel for building confidence, character, and an appreciation for hard work and teamwork, both on and off the court. Our partnership with Mentor Research Institute and the Positive Toolbox, along with other non-profit organizations including HSBCARES and Hoops 4 Hope of Africa, allows us to support youth who are faced with challenging circumstances.”
HSBCAMPS will hit the courts of Summit High School in Bend, Ore., for its second year, July 5 - 8, 2010. The HSBCAMPS Morning Clinic and Day Camp are geared towards teaching and developing the fundamentals of basketball for boys and girls in elementary, middle and high school grades. The Morning Clinic is open to youth in grades kindergarten through three. The Day Camp is open to youth in grades four through 12. From team competitions to individual contests, players will participate in fun, instructional work under the direction of the HSBCAMPS staff, comprised of collegiate and professional coaches and players.
In addition to Bend, the youth basketball summer camp will also be serving up high scoring experiences in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Chula Vista, Calif.; Boise, Idaho; Hailey, Idaho; Portland, Ore.; Park City, Utah; and Bellevue, Wash.
