Starr Tincup Triathlon Team Completes Second Month of Training and Fund Raising

Fort Worth, TX, November 10, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The triathlon team representing Starr Tincup, an integrated marketing firm that serves software and services companies through customer selection, acquisition and retention, has completed its second month of training and fund raising for the Olympic-distance Lavaman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, on April 1, 2007. The Starr Tincup triathlon team’s goal is two-fold—to train for and complete the triathlon and to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and their Team in Training program.
Bret Starr, principal and co-founder of Starr Tincup, said that the triathlon training has created unexpected positive benefits for the company and its clients; for example, the athletes are more energized and focused on each of their respective clients.
The Starr Tincup triathlon team is training and competing in the triathlon in honor of three heroes, people who live in Ft. Worth, Texas, and who are battling a form of blood cancer. The team’s heroes are Paula, 45, Tristen, 11, and Maura, 9. All three of the heroes have been diagnosed with Leukemia and are seeking treatment or are in remission.
Bret’s wife, Jennifer Starr, said that each team member has a wristband with the names of the team’s three heroes on it. “I think about these three heroes every time I work out and especially at times when I think about skipping a workout,” said Jennifer. “It's a powerful motivator.”
During October, the triathlon team welcomed a new member, Dan McCarron, who recently joined Starr Tincup. He said his biggest accomplishments so far have been moving to Ft. Worth, Texas, from New York, joining the team and starting to train. Dan said Bret is the most prepared at this point and named himself as the least prepared, but said he plans on following the team’s prescribed schedule. To learn more about the team’s newest member, read Dan’s blog at http://danmccarron.blogspot.com/.
In the past month, the team has been constantly training and raising money to meet their individual fund-raising goal of $5,800 each. Their success in fundraising has varied almost as much as their dedication to physical training. Most members are actively working, but others are hoping their personal charisma will carry them through the event.
According to the “official” workout schedule for October, each team member should have run 48 miles, biked 100 miles and swam 3,500 meters. “I think some of us have done around that, maybe even more, and some of us have thought about doing that,” said Jennifer.
