Garden City, NY, March 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Adelphi University is pleased to announce that Michael J. Driscoll M.B.A. ’89 has been appointed as a visiting professor and senior executive-in-residence at the School of Business. The appointment is effective April 1, 2010.
Mr. Driscoll brings with him more than 25 years of experience and recognition from Institutional Investor as one of the best on Wall Street. He will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in finance, provide guest lectures, mentor and advise students, as well as collaborate with faculty on outreach to the financial community. His impressive record in the financial industry and deep ties to senior and executive managers will provide support to increase partnerships, fundraising, program currency, and internship opportunities so students can excel in a competitive global economy.
“Mr. Driscoll’s extensive financial sector experience makes him an especially exciting addition to the School of Business faculty,” said Gayle D. Insler, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “We are fortunate to have such an esteemed alumnus join the School to share his knowledge to benefit the students and broader community.”
Mr. Driscoll, elected in December 2006 to the University’s Board of Trustees, has served as chairman of the Board’s Investment committee and vice-chair of the Advancement committee. Prior to joining the Adelphi faculty, Mr. Driscoll was one of the founding members and head of trading at Geosphere Capital LLC, a hedge fund focused on global natural resources and industrials with assets that reached $1.5 billion in 2008. He also served as senior managing director on Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc.’s NYSE-listed trading desk, primarily responsible for trading securities in the global energy and domestic aerospace and defense sectors. He consistently ranked in the top tier of Wall Street traders by Autex. A dedicated alumnus, Mr. Driscoll has been instrumental in University fundraising efforts and helped kick off Adelphi’s first-ever C.O.A.C.H. (Count on Alumni for Career Help) event, Careers in Finance, at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc.
“We greatly appreciate the extraordinary generosity and service of our Trustee Michael Driscoll,” said Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott. “He’s played a significant leadership role that has lead to many University accomplishments. He is an individual with high integrity and commitment to the values and vision we have for the School of Business.”
Mr. Driscoll has held various positions during his career with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette/Credit Suisse-First Boston, Hambrecht & Quist, Smith Barney, Prudential-Bache Securities, and E.F. Hutton & Company. He holds a bachelor's degree from State University of New York Maritime College and a master's degree in business administration from Adelphi University.
“Mr. Driscoll brings with him significant life experiences in the field of finance and great enthusiasm,” said Rakesh Gupta, dean of the School of Business. “He will continue to help us be at the forefront of preparing future business leaders in a global society and provide quality business programs.”
