Insights Into the Military Family Given in Memoirs of a Navy Brat, Published by Outskirts Press
Garden Valley, CA, March 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Beverly A. Moglich announced today the release of her autobiography, Memoirs of a Navy Brat, A Girl’s Adventure During the Depression and World War II, published by Outskirts Press. Although her memoir vividly recounts her harrowing moments in the attack on Pearl Harbor, its underlying value is as the chronicle of a child of the military and the emotional challenges that can come with that role.
In 1941 Beverly and her parents were half a world away from the war that was in Europe and living in the peaceful warmth of Hawaii. The morning of Pearl Harbor, however, a low flying Japanese Zero came close enough to young Beverly, standing in her pajamas in her yard, that the image of the pilot’s maniacal face, staring intensely at her through his cockpit window, has remained burned into her mind ever since.
Seconds later Beverly heard the monumental explosions of the battleship U.S.S. Arizona as it was being blown up in the harbor not far behind her.
Memoirs of a Navy Brat carefully tells the story of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the chaos of the days immediately after from Beverly’s unique historical vantage point. As such, it is part of the story of America; but Beverly’s thoughtful memoir also goes on to show the strain on military children from the long periods of separation they often must undergo from the parent who serves.
This is an accomplished first work by an author who is capable of giving readers an insight into the military family at a time when so many American troops are overseas while their wives and children wait hopefully back home.
