The Life and Times of a President's Grandson
How Isiah Tolbert is overcoming adversities
Binghamton, NY, July 31, 2005 --(PR.com)-- From the gritty streets of Staten Island, to suburbia upstate NY. Why the grandson of former Liberian President, “William R. Tolbert”, has been living in poverty?
Brought to the United States when he was 6 years old, the irony of Isiah’s story is someone with a high social class usually doesn’t end up slipping through the cracks of our system, and society. And with that slip in society class it turned out to be the same struggles and disadvantages everyone else coming from the streets dealt with. Except now Isiah had to adapt to American culture, perfect his speech, and learn to fit in a neighborhood where no one knew who he was.
Raised alone in the streets of Staten Island since the age of 12, Isiah supported himself by mixing in with the local street hustlers. But instead of dropping out of school, he stayed in school and even graduated with no one in the audience to support him. He learned to become self-dependent until he met his wife Jasmine. In 1998, they had their first child and moved out of the notorious Stapleton Houses. After winning a scholarship through the Song Writers Hall Of Fame in 1999, he took his check for $500 and his dream of music to Bedford TX. There he met his future producers Cameron Kennedy and Enrique Daley. After recording an album through the imprint “Gutterboyz”, he then returned to NY, but this time in a suburban upstate community called, Binghamton.
After recording with legendary producer Dan Harris, he went on to press and release 2 independent projects. But now with 3 more children the music took second-stage to providing financially for his family. He started selling drugs and soon found himself behind bars.
His wife Jasmine wrote a sympathetic letter to the judge along with his recent album and hoped for the best. 4,000 dollars later, broke and left with nothing, with the help of his attorney and the package, the judge released him. And with nothing more than one last opportunity, they capitalized on that shot and incorporated their name into; INJT Inc. With his wife depending on public assistance they found themselves backed into a wall with the reality of not being able to support their family.
So with 100’s of hours of research, and a killer business plan, they aggressively embarked on the opportunity to make their mark on the entertainment industry. But there was something missing. There was a history behind his name, and a grandfather who died and sacrificed to defend it. He started to research his past and for the first time in his life, he was introduced to his legendary grandfather right over the internet. There he stood in white on the $100 bill. But there was always an empty space left by his father since the age of 3.
Isiah finally saw his place in life; his destiny; his calling. He was finally back on the right path that went wrong twenty years ago. So with his corporation, his music, and a new exciting screenplay, he finally begins to reclaim the status that was once lost to him and his family.
Feeling like an experiment in American society, he now grasps everyone’s struggles. With the weight of the world on his shoulders and a new profound respect for his name, he believes his music was put here for a reason. And that reason was for God to document, “The Life and times of a Presidents grandson.” Amazingly with no representation, INJT Inc is a whole package waiting to be discovered.
