San Jose, CA, April 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The IndepenDance Company will open Friday, April 30th at the Luis Valdez Center for the Performing Arts, on the Independence High School Campus, 1776 Educational Park Drive, San Jose. The theater is located at the back of the high school, so parking and entrance doors can be accessed by entering the staff parking lot on Jackson Ave, located right off of McKee Road. The performances will be showing for two weekends: April 30th & May 1st and May 6th, 7th, and 8th. Doors will open at 7 pm and the actual show will commence at 7:30 pm.
The company is showing the same dances each performance night. Most of the dances are choreographed by the actual students of Independence High School, which make up the membership of IndepenDance Company. Several other pieces are choreographed by the artistic director, Kellye Dodd, the associate director Cristina McClelland, and the artist-in-residence, Gary Masters. Dodd’s “Sangre”, performed in last year’s annual show, captured the audience with her emotional story, and she is debuting this year another tragic piece entitled, “Es War.” McClelland puts on a performance of The Nutcracker with the San Jose Youth Ballet every year and has choreographed a whimsical, theatrical dance for the IndepenDance show. Masters is literally a “Master” in the world of dance. He has worked with many other amazing dancers including the modern dance icon, José Limón. His contribution to the company’s performance was teaching the students a variation from The Winged, which has been performed across the nation and was choreographed by Limón.
Ticket prices are $8 in advance and $12 the night of each performance at the Box Office. Seats are not assigned; it is a first-come first-served basis, so coming a little early is suggested. For more information regarding ticket purchasing call Pam Melvin at (408) 928-9853.
