Discover The Red Woods, The Fortuna, CA Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Marketing Committee, and Downtown Business Association Kickoff Spring and Summer Events Schedule
Fortuna, CA, April 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Many business owners are not able to make it to the Fortuna Downtown Business Association meetings even though these individuals want to participate and stay informed.
A model for small town America, Fortuna's downtown area has much to offer with over 100 small businesses. The area includes quaint offerings from antique shops to an art gallery to an outdoor cafe and the Farmer's Market. In Fortuna, today and yesterday come together in a very special way.
Events and Festivals
Year round, the Fortuna Merchants Association is working hard to plan fun, family events that bring together the community and attract visitors from all over. Along with being known as "Sunny Fortuna" because of its Mediterranean climate, the City is also famous for its events and festivals. The year kicks off with an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Basket Give Away. Beginning in May farmers and craft vendors gather between 10th and Main Streets every Tuesday to sell their goods at the Farmers Market.
Summer in downtown Fortuna includes the annual Citywide Yard Sale in June and Rodeo Week events in July such as street games, the penny scramble, and the Fireman’s games. Their most widely attended event is the yearly paean to chrome and sheet metal, the Redwood AutoXpo, a car show fueled by vintage rock ‘n’ roll, pink poodle skirts, white bobby socks, sunglasses and cars.
Autumn means that it’s time to celebrate the Annual Apple Harvest Festival where hayrides, live music, apple tasting and more can be found throughout all of Fortuna. On Halloween kids are invited to dress up and trick or treat at downtown businesses. Their newest event, the Fall Preview invites craft vendors to show their gift ideas to the community.
Downtown is packed with Holiday cheer as they bring you the Downtown Open House in December. Many businesses provide free food and warm drinks as well as activities for the kids. Watch the Fortuna Chamber Electric Lighted parade and visit Santa all in one fun-filled evening.
Elsewhere in Fortuna, the Eel River is the locale for the Paddle to the Headwaters canoe race. Other festivals and events include Civil War Days and Apple Harvest. Spring brings the Daffodil Festival; Art & Wine in the Park happens in early summer.
The Hops in Humboldt festival is the last event for the season August, preceding an eight-performance event of the Fortuna Concert Series which continues through the winter and spring. These professional musical programs feature local groups and individuals, as well as nationally and internationally known performers. The programming includes classical, jazz, folk, ethnic, vocal and instrumental music.
