ABC11 Eyewitness News Anchor Larry Stogner Inducted Into N.C. Halls of Fame in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations

Raleigh, NC, April 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- ABC11 Eyewitness News (www.abc11.com) has announced that anchor Larry Stogner will be inducted into the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication Hall of Fame. The N.C. Halls of Fame honor individuals who have made outstanding, career-long contributions to their fields. The inductions into the N.C. Halls of Fame in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations will be held Sunday, April 11 in the Chancellors Ballroom of the Carolina Inn, located at 211 Pittsboro St. in Chapel Hill, N.C.

A senior broadcast journalist in the Raleigh-Durham market, Stogner joined ABC 11 Eyewitness News in 1976. He began his broadcast career as an anchor at UNC-TV, and he has earned multiple Emmy nominations for reporting on subjects including former Governor Jim Hunt’s first international trip to recruit foreign companies to expand into North Carolina, and the 20th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. Most recently, Stogner traveled to Haiti with the 82nd Airborne Division to provide the Raleigh-Durham market with constant updates of the international efforts to aid Haiti in the wake of the earthquake that devastated the country on Jan. 12. He was the first news anchor in the Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville market assigned to report live from Haiti.

- Stogner anchors Eyewitness News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

- Throughout his 38 years at ABC11, Stogner has covered a variety of political stories, including the 1988 and 1996 Democratic conventions as well as the Reagan-Gorbachev Summit in Washington. He has conducted one-on-one interviews with former President George Bush and has moderated a number of statewide debates in gubernatorial and senatorial races.

- In 1979, Stogner was the only reporter to travel to Japan and China to cover former Governor Jim Hunt on his first international trip to recruit foreign companies to expand into North Carolina. His exclusive coverage earned Stogner an Emmy nomination.

- In the summer of 2002, Stogner accompanied units of the 82nd Airborne Division into Afghanistan, where he provided live nightly reports from Kandahar and later produced an hour-long special Kandahar Diary.

- A Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Air Force, Stogner also traveled to Vietnam in 1995 to report on the 20th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, which effectively ended America's involvement in that conflict. His documentary called Back to Nam was nominated for an Emmy.

- Born in Burlington, N.C, Stogner was raised in Yanceyville, N.C., and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He resides in Durham, N.C.
