Special Blue Iguana Inn room package to benefit the endangered Blue Iguana.
Ojai, CA, April 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- This April 22, the Blue Iguana Inn is celebrating Earth Day 2010 by launching a ‘Wild Blue Iguana’ package. The package includes deluxe accommodations for two nights, complimentary continental breakfast and a private self-guided tour of Ojai’s ‘secret garden’ – the Taft Botanical Gardens. Renowned for their South African and Australian native plant collection, the gardens are not open to the general public. The Inn has special access to the gardens, which are located in the foothills of the Ojai Valley. In addition, the Inn will make a donation to the Blue Iguana Recovery Program.
The Blue Iguana is the most endangered iguana on Earth. The original wild population found on Grand Cayman Island has been reduced from a near island-wide distribution to a near-extinct remnant due to the combined influences of habitat destruction, hunting, the introduction of non-native species and road kill. By 2005 any young born to the wild population were not surviving to breeding age, meaning the population was functionally extinct.
Thanks to the efforts Blue Iguana Recovery Program, the chances of survival for these vibrantly-hued lizards has greatly increased. By establishing a captive-breeding program and re-introducing these populations to protected reserves, the reptile is on the road to recovery.
