NAMWOLF Commends Executive Director Paul Williams and Governor Paterson for Increasing Opportunities for Minority and Women Owned Firms
The National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) commends Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) for increasing opportunities for MWBE law firms.
Albany, NY, April 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms commends Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) Executive Director, Paul Williams, Jr., and Governor David Paterson for increasing opportunities for MWBE law firms to serve as legal counsel to the issuers of State supported debt and other public authorities in New York.
In June 2008 Governor Paterson established a MWBE Task Force and appointed Williams as the Chair. Since its formation, the MWBE Task Force has removed barriers to participation by qualified MWBE law firms and encouraged utilization of other law firms that have sound diversity practices and programs. The Task Force recommends in its 2009 final report a goal for MWBE utilization of at least 10% of the total amount of legal fees paid by the State Public Authority, an amount which exceeds the 5% DASNY is encouraged to commit as a member of NAMWOLF’s Public Entity Partnership Program.
“We are delighted that DASNY and the Housing Finance Agency, under William’s direction, are exceeding the commitment recommended by our organization in order to provide meaningful opportunities for the advancement of minority and women firms,” said Yolanda Coly, Managing Director of NAMWOLF.
