KAI Texas to Design/Engineer New Highland Hills Branch Library

Dallas, TX, April 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- KAI Texas will serve as architect and mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) engineer on the City of Dallas’ new Highland Hills Branch Library. The new environmentally-friendly library is being designed to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.

The new 18,000-square-foot library will replace an existing library built nearby in the 1960s. The new $4.5 million library will be located on a four-acre site at 6200 Bonnie View Road in Dallas. “Construction on the new library is expected to begin in the fall and be completed within in approximately 10 months,” says Darren James, the firm’s president and COO.

KAI Texas is using building information modeling (BIM) technology to design/engineer the building. BIM, also known as a virtual design and construction platform, can provide a detailed virtual view of the library before it is built. This allows for better decision-making during design, and results generally in a reduction in costly change orders once construction begins.
