About Doctor Popular
Born in Georgia but raised in Lewisburg, TN, Doc Pop has been a professional yo-yoer for over 11 years. http://www.docpop.org/
“I bought my first yo-yo on a trip to Seattle. It was in the Space Needle and it was only $3. The only reason I bought it and not a snow dome was because the snow dome was $.50 more expensive,” Said Doc Pop on the origins of his yo-yo fascination.
“I was in Seattle trying to get signed to some record labels. I bought a yo-yo instead.
“A few weeks later I had learned all the tricks in the books and started making up my own… 11 years later and I'm still making up my own tricks.”
Doc Pop owns a 3rd place finish at the World Yo-Yo Championships in 2000.
He was also the first person to ever receive the National Trick Innovator of the Year award. This award was at the National Yo-Yo Contest in 2003.
Doc Pop has been featured on NBC, Fox News, Nickelodeon, MTV, and in hundreds of newspapers around the US for his yo-yo-ing prowess.
As a pro Doc Pop has worked for Duncan, Yomega, THP, Henry's Yo-Yo, YoYoFactory and Hasbro.
Doc Pop has had several yo-yos released with his name on it, including ones for Spintastics, Buzzon, and YoYoJam.
The yo-yo he created with YoYoJam is called The Bolt and it is still one of Doc’s favorite yo-yo’s ever made.
While living in Minneapolis, Doc Pop started the College For The Easily Amused, which is one of the oldest yo-yo clubs that still meets on a regular basis.
