Smith previously served as the senior manager of pharmacy relations for Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company in San Francisco. In his 24 years at Genentech, Smith served as liaison to a specialty pharmacy client for a $4.6 billion pharmaceutical industry forerunner, provided critical support for specialty pharmacies serving more than 60,000 individual customers, oversaw the negotiation terms and conditions of multi-million dollar contracts, and managed care strategies and policies of specialty drugs generating $350 million in sales. Smith is also a registered pharmacist with a degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
