Asigra and NetApp Demonstrate Hot Backup of Microsoft Business Applications to JumpPoint Cloud at Storage Networking World 2010
SNIA Hands-On Lab to Showcase Live Cloud Backup and Recovery of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Data.
Orlando, FL, April 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Asigra Inc., a leading Cloud Backup™ and recovery software provider since 1986, has joined with NetApp (Nasdaq: NTAP) and JumpPoint at Storage Networking World (SNW) 2010 in Orlando Florida to demonstrate cloud backup and recovery of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange data. During the SNIA Hands-on-Lab, IT professionals will perform hot backup data from these popular business applications to the JumpPoint cloud. Application data will then be restored back to the datacenter, illustrating the simplicity, flexibility and efficiency of JumpPoint’s business-class cloud backup powered by Asigra and NetApp.
Open to all end user SNW attendees, the SNIA Hands-on-Lab delivers a unique experience designed to introduce exciting technologies and raise awareness levels of how these technologies benefit end-user organizations. IT professionals participating in the JumpPoint lab demonstration will be “hands-on,” performing backup of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange data to the JumpPoint cloud and recovering to a second location to simulate a recovery after a complete server failure. As part of the cloud storage series of hands-on demonstrations, hot backup and fast recovery of Tier One application data will be highlighted to showcase the practicality and benefits of Asigra-powered Cloud Backup in mission-critical environments.
“This hands-on demonstration illustrates the benefits and merits of business-class cloud backup, validating the recovery of mission-critical data using a cloud backup service as fast, simple and reliable,” said Glenn Mowat, president of JumpPoint. “This business-centric approach to backup and recovery is due in great part to our technology partners, Asigra and NetApp, whose technology forms the backbone of our cloud backup offering.”
"SNW is an excellent venue to highlight how robust backup and recovery as a service can be on NetApp® storage today," said Wally MacDermid, director of ITaaS Solutions Marketing, NetApp. "As proven in the Hands-on-Lab, service providers and enterprises can get efficient, reliable, and cost-effective data protection in the cloud with this tightly integrated backup and recovery solution."
Cloud backup is specialized backup technology for protecting data by transmitting a copy of the data over a proprietary or public network to a public or private backup vault. In a public cloud implementation, the vault is usually managed by a third-party service provider, who charges the end-user organization a fee based on capacity. Larger organizations that build a private backup cloud typically deploy a proprietary vault which serves as the central backup repository for distributed enterprise backup. In conjunction with industry-leading storage hardware and services delivered through partners, Asigra delivers powerful cloud backup capabilities that allow organizations to economize and modernize their backup processes for greater efficiency, control and data availability.
“Organizations today are choosing to partner with Asigra to power their backup infrastructure because it aligns with NIST’s definition of cloud computing, capitalizing on the cloud paradigm for convenient, on-demand access to flexible computing resources,” said Ashar Baig, senior director of product marketing, Asigra. “The result is next-generation backup that supports organizations seeking greater control, simplicity and reduced capital/operational expenses.”
About the SNIA Hand-on-Lab
The SNIA Hands-On Lab provides participating companies the opportunity to present technology to IT end users attendees in a forum that raises skill levels through one-on-one discussion and hands-on lab experience. Organized in conjunction with selected SNIA Forums, the End User council and participating SNW sponsors/exhibitors, the Hands-On Lab gives technology users a chance to “test drive” the latest technologies in a controlled, learning lab environment. During these two-hour sessions attendees will be led through a series of structured exercises with representatives of the participating companies providing advice and expertise.
