Launch of Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Governance

New York, NY, November 15, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Friends of Freie Universität Berlin (FFUB), in partnership with the United Nations Global Compact, is pleased to announce the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Governance. This project was launched in 2005 at FFUB’s Transatlantic Bridge Award Gala which honored Prof. Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum.

The fellowship will integrate research and expertise into the current work of the Global Compact, a sponsoring corporation and a partnering educational institution of the Freie Universität Berlin. Fellows will be placed in each of the institutions for periods of three months, concluding their work in a written report for the benefit of the institutions engaged in this collaborate effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals set forth by Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Working with the Advisory Council, (members include Dr. Peter Eigen, Transparency International, Mr. Charles Goerens, Luxembourg Government, Dr. Vartan Gregorian, Carnegie Corporation of NY, Prof. Manfred Güllner, forsa-Institut, Dr. Georg Kell, United Nations Global Compact, Ms. Lotte Leicht, Human Rights Watch, Prof. Thomas Risse, Freie Universität Berlin, and Prof. John Ruggie, JFK School of Government) the scope of the fellowship aims to help private sector institutions address governance challenges faced internally as well as externally and to further productive partnerships between the private sector, education, the non-profit sector and the UN. Global Governance, and in particular Global Corporate Governance has become a universal subject matter for private institutions and governments the world over.

Support of the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Governance presents a unique opportunity to spearhead research through public-private partnerships with leading organizations and individuals in the field of corporate and social responsibility.
