Modius Announces Major Enhancements to Data Center Analysis and Intelligence Software
Modius OpenData v3.2 helps managers lower data center costs by as much as 20% by integrating power and cooling intelligence across the entire ecosystem of data center management tools.
San Francisco, CA, April 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Modius Inc., the leading developer of software solutions that enable IT and facilities to work collaboratively to manage their data centers as a single system, today announced the general availability of OpenData® v3.2, a major enhancement to its flagship data center monitoring and analysis product.
“Infrastructure and operations (I&O) leaders must now go beyond performance management of IT equipment and begin to manage the entire data center infrastructure. Tools for data center infrastructure management (DCIM) will provide detailed monitoring and measurement of data center performance, utilization and energy consumption, supporting more-efficient, cost-effective and greener environments.”i
OpenData v3.2 solves a problem common to Facilities and IT managers worldwide: How to share and aggregate real-time monitoring and measurement intelligence with disparate management platforms throughout the data center. Without centralized power and environmental intelligence, data center operators miss the opportunity to achieve the full energy savings available to them. According to a recent report by Gartner, “energy savings from well managed data centers can reduce operating expenses by as much as 20%.”
OpenData v3.2’s new best-of-breed web services infrastructure solves this problem by ensuring that real-time power and environmental intelligence from Modius can be integrated into all other management systems in the data center, including asset management, building management, and event management systems. This robust interface capability gives other systems instant access to OpenData’s repository of real-time intelligence for all critical devices in the IT and facilities ecosystem, including all power & cooling infrastructure equipment.
Also new to OpenData v3.2 is an integration that leverages RF Code’s wire-free sensor management system, enabling OpenData to provide a converged view of power, cooling and environmental conditions. The release also includes improved SNMP trap generation and processing, which allows greater flexibility in escalating and reporting anomalous events to other management systems.
“Infrastructure and operations (I&O) leaders must now go beyond performance management of IT equipment and begin to manage the entire data center infrastructure. Tools for data center infrastructure management (DCIM) will provide detailed monitoring and measurement of data center performance, utilization and energy consumption, supporting more-efficient, cost-effective and greener environments,” said David J. Cappuccio, Managing Vice President and Chief of Research, Gartner. “The integration of key building management and IT management disciplines will enable DCIM. Facilities and IT departments will benefit from DCIM through improved resource and facilities management.”ii
“As IT and facility managers deal with corporate sustainability requirements, the demands of increasing IT loads, constrained capacity expansion, and the impending release of the EPA’s Energy Star rating for data centers, they need a single pane-of-glass to view their physical infrastructure assets and the relevant IT activity. OpenData provides an extensible and powerful view into the condition of enterprise infrastructure,” said Craig Compiano, CEO of Modius.
