South Louisiana Photographer Receives Award of Excellence

Matthew White spotlights the fragile beauty of the Louisiana Coast.

Grand Isle, LA, April 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Matthew White, a landscape photographer who lives and works in the New Orleans area, is the recipient of an Award of Excellence for works featured in the 8th Annual Grand Isle Juried Exhibition, “The Power of Place” which opened on April 10, 2010 and concluded with a reception and awards presentation on April 18, 2010 at the Grand Isle Community Center. This was White’s fifth consecutive year to participate in the annual exhibition, which this year featured works with themes relating to the physical, political and emotional landscape associated with the only inhabited Louisiana barrier island and its surrounding wetlands.

The goal of the exhibition was to showcase excellent visual art from the region and raise awareness of Louisiana’s fragile but rich coastal environment and continuing loss. The two works of White showcased in the exhibit were “Grand Isle, LA” and “Cheniere Caminada, LA”.

"It was stormy all the way down to Grand Isle the day I shot the pictures”, White said. “I thought the shoot was going to be a bust but the storms were all around the island and not over it, the whole day. The island was in the sun; everything else was stormy. It even stormed on the way back in Leeville. That is what made the sky so dramatic that day. It was just good that it worked out on a rather randomly chosen day to go down for a shoot, something I’ve done many times over the past ten years.”

In addition to the original photographs featured in the show, White has released the images and a third one, “Stormy Summer Day, Grand Isle, LA” as limited edition fine art prints--currently on view at his website at www.matthewwhitestudio.com.
