New Look at First Ladies of the Late 1700's and the 1800’s in Remembering the Ladies, Published by Outskirts Press
Denver, CO, April 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Ann Covell announced today the release of her new historical work, Remembering the Ladies, published by Outskirts Press. An experienced writer and researcher, Mrs. Covell provides her readers with a fascinating collection of tales about the First Ladies of the first hundred years of the American presidency and their adventures with slavery, bigamy, duels, wars, assassinations, suffrage and even royal snubs.
The wives of 20th century the 21st century American presidents -- Jackie Kennedy, Mamie Eisenhower, Michelle Obama, et al -- have been subjected to the searing spotlight of contemporary media, but just over one hundred years ago most Americans knew little about the wives of the American Commanders-in Chief. There were few national newspapers or journals, and photography was still in its infancy.
The public may have viewed pictures of the presidents, but their wives were seldom seen outside of the capital and they remained for the most part quietly anonymous citizens.
Remembering the Ladies now allows readers to take a peek into the personal and political lives of these extraordinary women who were thrust into a public arena that was not always supportive or receptive. Many of them were burdened by more than their fair share of misfortune, and some of them were almost completely ignored or forgotten.
Ann Covell’s new release shows not only what it meant to each of these women to be the president’s wife, but also what it meant to be the loyal and dedicated citizen that, first and foremost, every one of these remarkable ladies was.
