SWAG-TV Act Outloud! Voice Your View, Vote SWAG-TV with Pepsi Refresh

Atlanta, GA, April 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- SWAG-TV Act Outloud! announces submission for PepsiCo's Refresh Project, which grants thousands of dollars to 32 potential recipients voted America’s favorite idea, reflecting positive community impact. Vying for a grant of $50,000 in Pepsi’s category of Health, SWAG-TV focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles through sports, physical fitness and nutrition among tweens and teens. Beginning May 1, 2010 at 12:01 a.m. EST, voters will be permitted one vote each day for 30 days via www.refresheverything.com/swag-tv, to aid in the acceptance of SWAG-TV for candidacy as one of Pepsi’s 12 out of 1,000 applicants, prior to deadline of 11:59 p.m. EST on May 31, 2010.

“The generosity of Pepsi’s Refresh Project would be the added empowerment to embark on (SWAG-TV), in light of Michele Obama’s call to action to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity,” states Kim Westry, Executive Vice President and COO of SWAG-TV. “We want to offer young consumers an outlet, demonstrating self-discipline in this battle as opposed to the ideas proposed by U.S. lawmakers and regulators of the food and beverage industries.”

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, “The problem of childhood obesity in the United States is staggering and has grown considerably in recent years, and between 16 and 33 percent of children and adolescents are obese. Unhealthy weight gain due to poor diet and lack of exercise is responsible for over 300,000 deaths each year in which the annual cost to society for obesity is estimated at nearly $100 billion. Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.” Kim Westry advises. “We want to empower and educate our youth about menu and snack alternatives. Added sugar and high fructose corn syrup appears in a lot of our foods which puts people at higher risk of cardiovascular disease. It also reduces HDL and increases triglycerides. These findings were just released by Emory University."

The youth will have an opportunity to submit programming ideas that promote creativity and education. They will actively participate in capacities as hosts, guest panelists, experts and/or audience members of various shows, films or webisodes. “We are currently working on a tween cooking show as well as a hip dance-themed show that will be another exercise alternative”, says Kim Westry.
