Paul Williams to Speak and Perform at CCC May 5 in L.A.

Singer, songwriter and ASCAP Chairman of the Board Paul Williams will speak and perform at the May 5th evening meeting of the California Copyright Conference in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles, CA, April 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Stories, tales, insights, songs and good humor will be on the agenda as the California Copyright Conference presents "An Evening with Paul Williams" on Wednesday, May 5, in Los Angeles.

In addition to discussing his amazing career as a songwriter and his responsibility as ASCAP's Chairman of the Board, he will examine the current state of the music industry with Randy Grimmett, Sr. Vice President of Membership for ASCAP. He will also perform a selection of his songs.

Paul Williams is a Hall of Fame songwriter with an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe for his work. Consider six of his songs: "We’ve Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays," "You and Me Against the World," "An Old Fashioned Love Song," "I Won't Last a Day Without You" and "Let Me Be The One." That's a life's work for some people. But wait, there's more.

He wrote the music and lyrics for numerous motion pictures, including "Bugsy Malone" and "Phantom of the Paradise." His lyrics are on "The Love Boat" theme. He wrote music and lyrics to the Garry Marshall musical, "Happy Days." He wrote "The Rainbow Connection" from "The Muppet Movie." And he wrote the lyrics to "Evergreen" from the 1976 version of "A Star is Born."

His songs have been recorded by Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Ella Fitzgerald, David Bowie, Ray Charles, R.E.M., Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughn, Johnny Mathis, Luther Vandross and Kermit the Frog.

He regularly appears as an actor in films and television, with roles in "Smokey and the Bandit," "Phantom of the Paradise," "The Doors," the voice of The Penguin in the animated "Batman" TV series, and many others.

When and Where:
This special CCC program will take place Wednesday, May 5, at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, 15433 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91403 (near Sepulveda & Ventura Blvd., just West of the 405 freeway). The parking entrance is on Orion Avenue and parking is free with validation at the event. Check-in is at 6:15 p.m., cocktails begin at 6:30, dinner at 7:00 with the presentation to follow.
