The Optimist Club of Downtown Flint Will be Hosting This Year’s "Respect for Law" Annual Luncheon at the Genesee Area Skill Center, Monday May 3rd, 2010 at 12:00 Noon
This is an annual event held by the Optimist Clubs of Genesee County. Police chiefs in Genesee County and the surrounding area give their nominations for the police officer of the year. The award is given to the officer who has contributed great public service within the community through their heroism. Stimulated a sense of civic responsibility, understanding of the law and encourages a greater respect for law.
Flint, MI, April 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The first day of May each year is hereby designated as Law Day, U.S.A. It is set aside as a special day of celebration by the American people in appreciation of their liberties and the reaffirmation of their loyalty to the United States of America. May 1, 1958 was the first Law Day, set forth by Dwight Eisenhower. In addition to the fore mentioned reasons Law Day is also celebrated for the rededication of Americans and the ideals of equality and justice under law in their relations with each other as well as with other nations; and for the cultivation of that respect for law that is so vital to the democratic way of life. In honor of Law Day the Optimist Club of Downtown Flint will be hosting this year’s Respect for Law Day luncheon at the Genesee Area Skill Center, Monday May 3rd, 2010 at 12:00 noon.
Recently announced democratic candidate for attorney general, Genesee County Prosecutor David S. Leyton will be the year’s guest speaker. David serves on the Board of Directors at the Child Advocacy Center, the GISD Attendance Task Force, the Genesee County Judicial Council and Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. He is also a member of the Board of Directors and Legislative Committee for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Association of Michigan.
This year’s event will be chaired by Mike Buckel – General Manager of Sonitrol Tri-County in Flint. The committee members will be the Honorable Judge David Newblatt, Joe Cozert – President of Teachout Security, and Carol Jaworski – Attorney at law.
