Maple Leaf Farms Duck Product Named Finalist in Specialty Food Competition
Fully Cooked Duck Leg Florentine Selected as 2010 sofiā¢ Silver Finalist.
New York, NY, April 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Maple Leaf Farms has been named as a Silver Finalist in the 2010 sofi™ Awards from the National Association of Specialty Food Trade, Inc. (NASFT) for its Fully Cooked Duck Leg Florentine. Considered the specialty food industry’s highest honor, the sofi (Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation) awards recognize excellence in the specialty food and beverage industry.
Recognized in the Perishable Foodservice Product category, the Duck Leg Florentine was selected by a national panel of specialty food experts from over 1,500 contenders across 31 award categories. All Silver Finalists will compete for Gold sofi awards, which will be announced at a red-carpet ceremony June 28 at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York.
“We are thrilled that the judges picked our Duck Leg Florentine,” said Cindy Turk, duck marketing manager for Maple Leaf Farms. “The product development was definitely a team effort. Just being a finalist is great recognition.”
Fully Cooked Duck Leg Florentine is a boneless duck leg, hand-filled with a flavorful blend of spinach and Parmesan cheese, then oven roasted for a golden-brown finish. The product was chef inspired to be an enticing option for buffets, banquets and catering.
The sofi awards are open to members of NASFT, a not-for-profit trade association for the specialty food industry with more than 2,900 members throughout the U.S. and abroad.
“The field was very competitive, with entries up 12 percent from 2009. The finalists represent the breadth and quality of our members’ distinctive products,” said Ann Daw, president of NASFT. “It is clear that our industry is moving forward with innovation, inspiration and creativity.”
