Mama Cares Foundation Hosts Event to Rally Support for its Fight Against World Hunger

Anonymous donor pledges generous matching program to kickoff fundraising efforts.

Carlsbad, CA, April 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Mama Cares Foundation, a non-profit foundation focused on eliminating severe acute malnutrition, announced today that it held an event on Thursday, April 22 at the Powerhouse in Del Mar, to rally support for its fight to eliminate severe acute malnutrition. Friends and past donors to the organization gathered to hear an update on its efforts and were pleased to find out that production and distribution of Re:Vive, a fortified nut-based ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF), which can be extremely effective in helping to alleviate the world hunger problem, is now underway.

The statistics are disheartening: Every six seconds, a child dies because he/she did not have access to essential nutrients. 20 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition which is the underlying cause of death for between three and five million children under five every year. But there is hope: Re:Vive offers a solution to this devastating situation. The RUTF has proven to be a potentially life-saving product. Re:Vive will soon be distributed in Africa and throughout the world.

“With Re:Vive, we have the potential to save thousands, even millions of lives. I am excited to announce that a generous donor has stepped forward and has committed to match the first $100,000 in donations that come in by May 31 earmarked to support Re:Vive. And an additional $50,000 contribution will be made if we succeed in bringing in enough funds for the full match. This initial drive could pull in a total of $250,000 of which every penny will go to product life saving food,” said Mike Mellace, executive director, Mama Cares Foundation.

Operational costs of the Mama Cares Foundation are underwritten by Mellace Family Brands, a snack food innovator known for a diverse product line that includes tree nuts, peanuts, snack mixes, and enrobed chocolate items. And Mellace Family Brands has called on other companies in the industry to partner with them in this fight to eradicate malnutrition. “We cannot look to the government to solve this. This should be an industry solution.”

More information on the Re:Vive initiative will be announced in the coming weeks and months. And a more comprehensive fundraising program to support these efforts will be launched officially this Fall.
