Thousand Oaks Philharmonic Rising Stars Concerts Showcase Eight of the Area’s Best Young Musicians
Concerts May 6th, 7th, and 9th – including a performance at the prestigious Ventura Music Festival – feature local composer Michael Glenn Williams and renowned conductor Richard Rintoul.
Thousand Oaks, CA, April 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, a non-profit organization founded to give local young artists a unique professional performance experience, today announced three performances of its Rising Stars Concert featuring eight exceptionally talented youth from Ventura County and neighboring communities. The young artists will perform concertos led by renowned conductor Richard Rintoul accompanied by the celebrated Thousand Oaks Philharmonic. The first performance, May 6th at 7:30 p.m., will be held at the Ventura Bible Fellowship Church and is part of the prestigious invitation-only Ventura Music Festival. Additional performances will be held May 7th at 7:30 p.m. at the Camarillo United Methodist Church and on May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza in the Scherr Forum Theatre. A pre-concert three-course, wine-paired gourmet dinner celebrating the 2010 season will be held at Fiamme Restaurant & Bar, home of Headliners Comedy Club @ Fiamme!, May 9th beginning at 5:00 p.m. The all-inclusive cost for the Friends of the Phil fund-raiser is $50.00 per person and includes dinner and wine. Fiamme is located at 3731 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village, in the Paseo Market Place Shopping Center. A portion of the fee is tax-deductible. Seating is limited. The concert will include the Rising Stars Overture, an original work by composer Michael Glenn Williams and solo performances from eight of the area’s most talented rising stars. Mr. Williams is a composer, pianist and board member of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic. Educated at California State University Northridge and the Eastman School of Music, he founded The Chopin Project and has composed a wide range of works including jazz, film scores, and electronic music, which have been performed worldwide.
Piano soloists include Alicia Zhong a Medea Creek Middle School student from Oak Park, Michael Aspinwall a sophomore at Calabasas High School, David Fraley a Monte Vista Middle School student from Camarillo, and Ventura High School senior Charles Su. Matthew Chen a middle school student from Oaks Christian in Westlake Village will perform a cello solo, Brandon Hynum of Newbury Park, a student at the Thornton School of Music-University of Southern California will present a tenor solo, Rachel Flowers a high school student from Oxnard will perform a solo on the flute and Evan De Long a home-schooled high school student from Newbury Park, will present a violin solo.
Conductor Richard Rintoul holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from UCLA, a Masters in Music in Orchestral Conducting from USC, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Viola Performance from Cal Arts. He works as a conductor, teacher, clinician, and violist. In addition to the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, Dr. Rintoul conducts the orchestra at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he also teaches conducting; and the Orchestra da Camera, which he founded in 1987, at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
