Greg Lagola Reinvents Menswear
Menswear designer Greg Lagola in his second season is currently selling at Takashimaya New York. His Spring 2006 collection is available for preview.
New York, NY, August 04, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Greg Lagola, a new engineer of men’s fashion re-invents conventional garments. Aware that most men simply look at silhouettes and ignore the details, Greg Lagola designs for the casual chic; the designer, artist, professional, or architect who has inherent style. Missing seams, bias, complex and sometimes impossible cuts, he has been able to find solutions to constructing garments in non-traditional ways, while maintaining function and wearability. Greg Lagola is available at high-end stores such as Takashimaya New York.
By first studying the fabric and how it drapes around the body Lagola discovers ways of styling menswear comparable to women’s couture. To exemplify his standards, he works with the finest Italian mills, using luxurious cottons, wools, and jerseys from Biella, Como’s richest shirtings, silks and other fine textiles. Unique designs, engineered prints, beautiful fabrics along with impeccable tailoring and construction make for a collection that is desired in today’s menswear market. "Textiles have no gender. I use exquisite and sometimes uncommon fabrics and, more importantly, fabrics that offer new methods for me to conquer old design challenges," reveals Lagola. His team consists of a financial silent partner, a French patternmaker who worked with Castelbaljac and Kenzo, and an Italian tailor who worked with Louis Dell’olio at Anne Klein.
Trained as an artist and passionate about couture, Lagola was inspired to launch his own collection after 20 years of learning the trade from the inside out – from design, textile development, merchandising, to production. "I approach fashion as a problem solver. By examining the relationship between the fabric, a two-dimensional form, and the body, a moving three-dimensional figure, I work to offer design-driven pieces that are different yet suitable for any man,” states Lagola.
Intrigued by the challenge of bringing a unique design perspective to the men's market, Greg Lagola found that bringing his sculptural and architectural approach to fashion expanded his styling and design options, where outwardly simple silhouettes defy innovative cuts and patterns. Rather than being led by a trend or a theme, his starting point is the texture and drape of a fabric. Constantly searching for new solutions for a style, whether in the proportion, cut, construction or detail, Lagola finds new ways to cut the fabric into a wearable piece. “During this process, some rules of conventional men's tailoring do get broken and that surprise makes all the difference," asserts Lagola.
