Savannah, GA, May 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- For the third year in a row, Memorial Health received the Patient Safety Excellence Award from HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization.
According to HealthGrades, Memorial ranks among the top 5 percent nationally for patient safety and is the only Savannah-area hospital to earn the recognition. This award places Memorial in elite company -- only 74 hospitals in the U.S. received both the HealthGrades 2010 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence and the 2010 Patient Safety Excellence Award.
“We go to great lengths to ensure the safety of our patients. Being recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the nation is a tremendous honor and a tribute to our hard-working team,” said Marty Scott, M.D., MBA vice president for quality and patient safety at Memorial.
To determine the award recipients, HealthGrades analyzed patient safety among Medicare patients in all of the nearly 5,000 non-federal hospitals in the United States.
Medicare patients at hospitals receiving the HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award were, on average, 43 percent less likely to experience a patient safety event, such as an infection or injury. These unexpected events result in billions of dollars in unnecessary healthcare costs every year.
The results are part of the seventh annual HealthGrades Patient Safety in American Hospitals study, which analyzed nearly 40 million hospitalization records nationwide. For a complete explanation of the methodology, visit healthgrades.com.
