EPL Skylift Becomes a Tourist Attraction at London’s Covent Garden

Lutterworth, United Kingdom, May 02, 2010 --(PR.com)-- An EPL Skylift truck-mounted platform gave tourists something different to look at when it was used to survey the famous glass roof at Covent Garden Market in London’s West End.

The customer, Avalon Abseiling, said the T72 Bronto was perfect for the job as its boom could be moved easily within inches of the Grade II listed building.

It also proved a big hit as a tourist attraction when visitors stopped to take pictures while the platform arm worked high above the famous cobbled market square.

Avalon Abseiling had been contracted to provide high-level access to the building so a survey could be carried out before it is painted in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

Pat McGee, Avalon Abseiling’s Managing Director, said: “It was the biggest platform I have ever hired. An alternative was to scaffold the building and that would have cost more than twice as much. It would have been more disruptive, and taken much longer as well.

“As it was, the job took a week and the surveyor was really impressed with how maneuverable and precise the machine was. The tourists loved it too. They forgot about the usual sites for a moment and snapped away with their cameras at the platform instead. Not your normal London souvenir!”
