Uri Hofi Returns for US Blacksmithing Workshop Series at the Center for Metal Arts in NY
International blacksmith educator and forging innovator Uri Hofi returns to the Center for Metal Arts June 14-25, 2010 for a rare US workshop appearance for sculptors, industrial designers, metal artists and jewelers.
Florida, NY, May 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- “Free-form Forging--the Coolest Class I’ve Ever Seen” wrote The Village Voice about the Hofi courses taught at the Center for Metal Arts. Spend five intensive days with one of humanity’s oldest craft forms and the innovative Uri Hofi, whose methods and tooling have revolutionized the art form. From fire management to metallurgy, you will learn to use the properties of metal to move iron in surprising and interesting ways.
“I learned more about working metal in five days with Uri Hofi than I did in five years of the German metalwork apprenticeship program.” was a student review in the spring of 2008, and indeed Hofi's methodology has recently been adopted by German technical metal arts programs. Hofi has taught his ergonomic blacksmithing method in throughout Europe, Japan, and at the Center for Metal Arts in the US.
The keynote course, "Comprehensive Fundamentals of Blacksmithing with Uri Hofi" is scheduled for June 14-18 2010. In this 5-day forging intensive, you will learn to move metal in new ways, and how to move it more effectively. This 5-day workshop is always lively, with a rare chance to learn the "how and why" of blacksmithing techniques and processes from the innovative Hofi himself. The course offers plenty of hands-on time at the forge to work out Hofi's demonstrations of technique.
Because the class starts from the fundamentals of forging, it is a great opportunity for the beginning blacksmith, or for someone who has never held a hammer before. But even award-winning professional metal artists have come back to re-take this course two or more times, because there is more in the course content than can be carried away in one week. The course is only open to a small group of students, for maximum access and personal instruction with Hofi.
The Power Hammer Workshop with Uri Hofi, from June 21-23, 2010, is a follow-up course for students who have taken the comprehensive fundamentals course. This two and a half day class in "Free-Form Power Hammer Forging" is an intensive program of demonstrations and hands-on time. Learn how to use Hofi's signature dies to maximum advantage for efficient and effective power hammer work. You will leave with many new ideas and elements for your own work.
This course is ideal for the smith who would like to get more out of the power hammer. The class is kept small for maximum access and personal instruction with Hofi. This workshop begins on June 21 at 8 AM and ends at noon on Wednesday June 23.
A second chance to take the Power Hammer Workshop with Uri Hofi will run from June 23-25, 2010. This class begins at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 23, and ends at 5 PM on Friday, June 25.
Hofi has been coming to the Center for Metal Arts since 2001 to teach his innovative methods of working hot iron at the forge, anvil and power hammer.
