1st Friday Santa Cruz (Costumed Decorated) Art Bike Cruise

Fun, free, family event.

Santa Cruz, CA, May 02, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Slimm Buick and friends will be hosting an “Art Bike Ride” on Friday, May 7, 2010 beginning at 5:30pm. The group will take off from the parking lot of Rite Aid/Whole Foods on Soquel Avenue and Branciforte, stop at the Santa Cruz Art League on Broadway, and then downtown, to The Bike Church. From there, anyone's guess is good as corraling artists is like trying to herd cats. Slimm and Justine will be riding together until approximately 11:30pm however and welcome all to join them (tour ends at midnight).

All ages are welcome, and it’s encouraged you ride a human-powered vehicle if you can (exceptions made for the disabled using electric bikes/chairs of course). No art bike? No problem, just ride a bike while wearing a costume or some sort of personal, artistic statement.

Slimm Buick has been creating art in one form or another since childhood. And, he's kept that childlike style and intent. Kids just love him. Animals, too. He was born & raised in San Franciscan, as were his Father, Richard Perkins (a retired Cable Car Gripman) and Grandfather, Robert Perkins, a Grocer. Actually, for the record, Slimm is a 4th generation San Franciscan, a 5th generation California citizen according to the National Genealogy library in Salt Lake City.

This might explain why Slimm's work often has a "Western" flair, surely appropriate at any rate, considering San Francisco is a part of the Gold Country or "Mother Lode" in CA.

Slimm's artwork has been shown in major museums, has been featured in movies, and sold in galleries around the Bay Area. He is best known for movable works of art, or "Art Bikes." These bicycles look like they could be from the Wild West, or another world, and his best known piece, "Rawhide" is also his favored form of transportation, and the one he can often be seen riding around town, on. That and the Cycle Truck, for chores. It has a big Buick grill on it, to deter jaywalkers.

Decorate your bike and/or don costume, and come on out. Should be a fun time for all and good, clean family fun. Free.
