OP Music House Praying It Forward, Selects Church, Seeking Funds
OP Music House prays it forward and submitted an offer to purchase former Alliance Church in Orchard Park. "I'll do God's work all day but I'm not on his payroll," Suzanne Perry hopes to get off the ground with fundraisers and grants.
Orchard Park, NY, May 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- There is no rest for OP Music House.
Since the stage was set in January of this new venture, the reaction has been overwhelming; putting a spotlight on the reality of domestic violence with Suzanne Perry, a former victim, standing steadfast in the center.
Now, just 4 months later, the OP Music House, Inc. is a registered nonprofit agency as a performing arts youth center targeted at persons 16-24 years old.
It will feature a music venue and basic recording studio. Local musicians will give talks, lessons and performances, and self-esteem enrichment will be offered.
Founded in the name of all impacted by domestic violence and abuse, the location has been selected, and an offer made to purchase the abandoned church at Southwestern and Abbott Roads.
"It needs alot of work, but it's mostly cleaning, and the structure is sound." Founder Suzanne Perry is determined and wishful to receive the same encouragement she's been getting morally, in the form of grants, services and cash to get the facility cleaned up and opened to the community.
Her persistence to reach out to people and share her insight has brought dozens out of their own darkness, seeking her advice in how to get through and past abuse.
"People say I'm doing God's work. I don't know about that. I just love people and music, and want to promote peace. Nobody deserves to be controlled, bashed or humiliated. And I'm not marching for women; women are often worse than men in degrading their partner. I speak out for humanity. Nobody has the right to judge another, and life really is simple. People make it complex when it doesn't need to be," Perry insists.
She's helped people find housing, get help with divorce proceedings, and even given in-home 'sessions.'
Perry continued, "Both parties in an abusive relationship fit a profile. The people I see, have been mentally reduced to a puddle of mud. I tell them the abuser's methodology, and make them see that they are worthwhile, beautiful people."
OP Music House has fundraising events scheduled, such as the Exposure Tourney at Rose Brook Golf Course May 21 at 3pm. For $20, people can partake in the 9-hole tourney and includes a cart. Food, beverages, raffles and prizes will be available. Live music starts at 7pm with Buffalo Hall of Famer Joe Head and The Thirds. Tickets are available exclusively at rosebrookgolfcourse's website.
It is hoped that enough will be raised to cover a few month's expenses while further promoting and fundraising drives are planned.
The biggest event so far will be the EXPOSURE Concert at Club Paradise Aug 14-15, when 43 bands will perform over the weekend. That show will be recorded and sold on DVD as well as being streamed live around the world, all to expose domestic violence. Pre-sale tickets are only $10 for a day or $15 for the weekend and are available online at www.opmusichouse.org.
