Seminal Films Announces Theatrical Release of ‘Why Am I Doing This?’

‘Why Am I Doing This?’ stars Emma Caulfield, Tom Huang and Anthony Montgomery. It is having a weeklong theatrical release at the Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills from May 14-20. The DVD will be released on July 13, 2010.

Los Angeles, CA, May 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Seminal Films is pleased to announce the theatrical release of 'Why Am I Doing This?', a hilarious, inventive comedy about two talented but perennially down-on-their-luck guys trying to find fame, love and their Hollywood dream.

The film stars Emma Caulfield, (TV’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Anthony Montgomery (Star Trek: Enterprise), Gerry Bednob (40 Year Old Virgin), Joe Torry (Poetic Justice), Tamlyn Tomita (Joy Luck Club), Sheetal Sheth (Looking For Comedy in the Muslim World) and James Kyson Lee (TV’s Heroes). It is written and directed by Tom Huang, produced by Tri Destined Studios and Executive Produced by Mathius Mack Gertz and Rui Da Silva of Seminal Films.

Tony Chang (Tom Huang), is a struggling Asian-American actor who can only seem to get auditions for parts as Chinese delivery boys or sushi chefs with bad accents. He loves acting, but everywhere he turns seems to be a dead end for his career. Tony’s best friend and roommate, Lester Niles (Anthony Montgomery), is a struggling African-American stand-up comedian whose style is purely observational and political, like Jon Stewart or Seinfeld. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone in the industry wants him to be the next Martin Lawrence, and push him to do angrier, edgier kind of material.

Together, Tony and Lester support and help each other in their fight to keep the Hollywood dream alive while still trying to deal with family and getting a girl. The film follows them and those around them as they all learn a little about themselves in a story that’s about more making it in Tinseltown; it’s about learning how to be true to your soul in the background of living in a city where cultures and race are forced together, ultimately effecting how you live.

'Why Am I Doing This?' has been around the indie film festival circuit, winning the Director’s New Visions Award at the 2009 Cinequest International Film Festival, Best Narrative Feature at the 2009 Philadelphia Asian-American Film Festival, and Best Feature Film at the 2009 Houston Comedy Film Festival. The Boston Herald calls it, “A raucous look at life in Los Angeles for an actor.”

'Why Am I Doing This?' is having a weeklong theatrical release at the Laemmle Music Hall Theater in Beverly Hills from May 14-20. The filmmakers, producers and actors will be participating in a Q&A session during all the evening screenings. There will also be a special screening and discussion on Sunday, May 16 at 2:45pm in conjunction with the Asian-American media non-profit Visual Communications and the Coalition of Asian-Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE). Actors, producers and executives will be on hand after the film to discuss the state of minority actors and comedians in Hollywood. The DVD will be available on July 13, 2010 through E1 Entertainment.
