Master of Arts in Christian Studies - New Online Degree at University of the Cumberlands
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools recently approved the establishment of a Master of Arts in Christian Studies online degree at University of the Cumberlands. Classes for the thirty-hour degree will begin in the fall of 2010.
Williamsburg, KY, May 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Since the Master of Arts in Christian Studies will be offered entirely online, students anywhere in the world will be able to take the courses and complete the degree. Courses will be taught in eight-week bi-terms.
According to Dr. Bob Dunston, Chair of the Religion Department at University of the Cumberlands, "The Master of Arts in Christian Studies online program is designed to blend both the academic study of the Bible and Christian theology with the practical application of Biblical faith and theology in ministry settings. Our program will challenge and encourage our students to think critically and creatively as they apply the gospel in the 21st century.
"Our courses will be taught not only by faculty members of University of the Cumberlands but also by outstanding ministers in the local church who can pass on to our students their invaluable experience and wisdom. We look forward to preparing Biblically-based ministers ready to meet the challenges of the present day and the future."
The core courses for the degree include two semesters of Old Testament Survey, two semesters of New Testament Survey, and two courses in Christian theology. These courses account for 18 hours of the degree program.
Each student will then choose an emphasis in Biblical studies, Christian education, or church planting. The student will take two courses from the chosen emphasis and an additional course from one of the other two emphases.
The final course for the degree is a capstone course in which the student develops, implements, and evaluates a project in a ministry setting that fits the student's God-given call and talents.
During the first bi-term of the fall 2010 semester, University of the Cumberlands will offer RELG 533 New Testament Survey I and RELG 537 Christian Education. The second bi-term will feature RELG 531 Old Testament Survey I and RELG 538 The Church and Contemporary Culture.
The online master's in Christian Studies is delivered in partnership with The Learning House, Inc. (www.learninghouse.com), a total online learning solutions company that helps colleges and universities offer and manage their online degree programs.
