Dr. Manish Gupta Joins Global Refuge International’s Medical Advisory Board
Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Manish Gupta brings expertise to Global Refuge International’s (GRI) medical advisory board.
W. Palm Beach, FL, May 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- When disaster strikes a country, images on the news show relief workers as well as fellow countrymen joining together to distribute aid such as food, water, shelter and medical treatment. Those images illustrate the vital roles that frontline relief workers play. However, not much mention is made of the “behind the scenes” workers, people like Dr. Manish Gupta.
Since 2005, GRI has specialized in emergency response in natural and man-made disasters and has constructed a leading global response network for cholera, shigellosis, pneumonia, malaria, malnutrition and other high-mortality diseases in emergencies. GRI has implemented its emergency response recently for the 2008 hurricane that destroyed Burma’s (Myanmar) delta region as well as for the Haitian earthquake in January 2010. GRI’s medical advisory board is the backbone for these responses.
Dr. Manish Gupta, the most recent addition to GRI’s medical advisory board, is an Orthopedic Surgeon from Boca Raton, Florida. He specializes in the surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip, including hip arthroscopy and is certified as a subspecialist in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, and American Arthroscopy Association of North America. He also treats trauma related injuries for adults and adolescents. "We are really excited that Dr. Gupta has decided to join the GRI Medical Advisory Board in this specialized role of orthopedics, a role that is often overlooked in emergencies,” said Brian McNeely, president of Global Refuge International. “He is an outstanding teacher, surgeon, and will be a valuable asset in our efforts to build the most experienced medical teams in the world for complex emergency relief."
