Raleigh Through Two Minds' Eyes: How Two Photographers See the Same Subjects so Differently
Raleigh, NC, November 22, 2006 --(PR.com)-- When photographers Cara Galati and Jonathan Kaz of F8 Photo Studios in Raleigh wandered the city in search of subjects for a new exhibit of their work, an idea formulated: Why not shoot the same subjects to see how different their individual perspectives might be?
The results can be seen Friday, December 1, when “Raleigh Through 2 Minds’ Eyes” opens at April & George wine bar + gallery on Glenwood South at 8 p.m.
In a recent interview, Galati talked about the process of creating “Raleigh Through 2 Minds’ Eyes.”
“We went on a few shooting expeditions with our cameras and tripods and tried to capture some cool stuff using the existing light,” she said, “Several of the pieces were taken at night. Jonathan used a Canon® and a wide-angle lens. I used my Nikon® and predominately my fisheye lens. Anyone who’s seen my work knows I love my fisheye!”
Among the subjects for the partner’s collection of large images are recognizable architectural landmarks of downtown Raleigh including the skyline as seen from South Saunders Street.
“Most of the images have really funky, saturated colors,” she noted, “and several of the pieces feature moving objects.”
The partners say they’re fascinated by their differences in perspective, which they discovered through this project. “It really is a comparative study of my work and Jonathan’s,” Galati said. “But mostly, we just had fun doing it.”
Galati, the former principal of CGG Photography, recently launched F8 Photo Studios with Jonathan Kaz of Sixpence Studios in Waterville, Maine, who will relocate to Raleigh permanently in early 2007. Their studio is located in The Royal Bakery Building on Hillsborough Street.
“Raleigh Through 2 Minds’ Eyes” will remain at April & George through January 4, 2007. April & George is located at 414 Glenwood Avenue. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 5-11 p.m., Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. until 2 p.m.
